Learn How To Apply Eye Liner For A Glamorous, Sultry Look
I think one of the most basic, yet ultra important, makeup tricks that you should master is how to apply eye liner.
Whether you want to have a soft, natural look or a smoky, sultry appearance, eyeliner can help give shape and increase the depth of your eye, making them appear bigger and more appealing.
There are two basic types of eyeliners, the pencil eyeliner and the liquid eyeliner. Of course, there are gel eyeliners, which are a different animal of themselves.
If you want to create light and soft lines on the edge of the eyes, it is best to use pencil eyeliner. However, for bolder and precise lines, you should probably select liquid eyeliner because it has a more dramatic effect on the eyes.
The most important thing is that you know how to apply eye liner correctly to achieve the look that you want.
I know some of you may be a little apprehensive to try lining your eyes because you may be too heavy handed, or a little clumsy with your application, but don’t worry about that.
Here Are Some Basic Tips On How To Apply Eye Liner Without Looking Quite Foolish:
In front of a mirror, place the elbow of your dominant hand in front of you. I actually use a double-sided mirror and alternate between the double magnification and the regular magnification. Make sure that you are comfortable with your position so that you will avoid any unnecessary movements.
Slightly tilt your head forwards so that your eyes would be half-open. Always remember that in this position, you should be able to see your entire eyelid.
If you are using a pencil eyeliner, make sure that you sharpen the pencil before use. This will ensure that your pencil has a sharp tip, making application easier, and this will remove any bacterial buildup from the last use.
Place the end of the pencil closest to the tip in between your fingers, which will give you more control. Most of the time, edges of pencil eyeliners tend to harden up when they dry.
Gently pull your eyelid upward and toward your temple. (I know some people will tell you that this will cause wrinkles, so I would use the lightest touch possible.) Begin at the inside edge of the eyes. Draw short and thin lines across the upper eyelid nearest to the lash line if possible, if you are using pencil eyeliners. you can smudge the line using your fingers or cotton swab to even out the lines. Rub gently at the upper part going outwards.
This Look Was Achieved With Liquid Eyeliner
If using a liquid eyeliner, check for clumps in the liner. Make a smooth continuous line across the upper eyelid, as close as the lash line as well, if possible. Take time to let the liquid liner to dry up before opening your eyes, or else the liner will smear in your crease.
To line the bottom lid, make a thin line beginning at the outside edge going across the eyes. For a more natural look, make a line only 1/3 of your bottom lid. Line the entire lid if you want it to be more dramatic and noticeable.
You should remember that applying eyeliner on both the upper and lower lid can make your eyes appear smaller.
If you already have small set of eyes and would like to make them appear bigger, you may choose to outline the bottom lid of the eyes only. Or you could line the waterline of the bottom lid with a white or nude colored eyeliner.
How To Remove Eyeliner
At the end of the day, always remember to remove any makeup on your face using a good makeup remover, specifically one formulated to remove eye makeup.
Usually the best eye makeup removers are oil based. Washing your face with your preferred cleanser should also be done to make sure that there is no makeup residue and oil from the remover left over.
No matter how tired you are at the end of the day, it is always best to clean your face before going to bed as a part of a healthy face and skin care regimen.
